Anca Irinciuc is a contemporary visual artist working primarily with ballpoint pen on paper, following earlier explorations in oil painting, collage, and mixed media. Her practice focuses on the expressive potential of line, texture, and spatial structure.

Through sustained repetition and attentive observation, she constructs drawings that exist in a state of tension between formation and dissolution. Her works develop gradually, revealing layered surfaces where form emerges and recedes simultaneously.

Her approach reflects an ongoing investigation into perception, presence, and the fragile balance between control and uncertainty.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Drawing, for me, is a slow way of paying attention. I build each image gradually, through repetition, allowing it to grow rather than forcing it into a predefined form. The process is quiet, patient, and often uncertain, but this uncertainty is essential to the work.

I use ballpoint pen because it does not allow erasure. Every mark remains visible, carrying the memory of the gesture that made it. This irreversibility turns drawing into an act of commitment — each line is both a decision and a trace of time.

Across my series, I am interested in how inner experience becomes visible. Sometimes this takes the form of the human body, often turned away from the viewer, withdrawn into itself. Other works focus on structures and spaces that emerge from accumulated lines, hovering between figuration and abstraction.

Rather than telling a story, the drawings create a state — a pause, a moment of suspension in which something inward becomes perceptible. They are less about describing the world and more about observing how presence, tension, and transformation can exist within a single image.
